Yes, we keep hearing this advice, and it’s getting old. But, if we think about it, MAYBE there is something to it? So, while getting up early is not fun, these tips will make it more interesting.

Simple ways to wake up early

It’s no secret that waking up early is something that most people struggle with.

Most people, being, us, the common people who have to go to work for a living. Who has to brave the traffic and whatever the weather has in store for us for the day.

And when you think about it, the rich and successful people often preach the merits of waking up early. Hmmmm? Maybe, there is really something to it?

So, if for some reason you’d want to give waking up early a try, here are some simple ways you can go about it, so it can stick.

Have a good reason for waking up early

This is the foundation of your desire to get up early. That’s pretty much it.

You must have a valid reason for wanting to get up early. Otherwise, you’ll find it difficult, your body will resist the change, and you won’t find anything positive in the activity.

Take it from a late convert to the habit like myself. I never really endeavored to wake up early for a long time. Because- why?

I had no good reason to do it. Just wanting to wake up early did not cut it for me. Because when the alarm went off, I had to debate with myself whether to get up or stay in bed. Of course, the latter option was always the winner.

So, when I realized that I could improve myself by getting up a little earlier, developing the habit became more sensible.

Personal development is the primary reason I advocate for getting up early.

Have a ready plan on what you will do upon waking up

Similar to or probably in conjunction with having a good reason for waking up is to have a detailed plan of how you are going to spend your time upon waking up.

Is it washing your face and brushing your teeth in the morning, followed by a cup of coffee before going for a walk?

Or is it reading a good book while sipping a cup of coffee, then eating a healthy breakfast before exercising?

Therefore, having a plan on what to do for when you wake up early will make you raring to get up early in the morning. Make it something you really want to do, that will make you feel good. This will set a positive tone for the rest of your day.

Leisurely breakfast

Morning scenes are usually chaotic, with every person in the house going their own way to get out of the house immediately because they’re running late. For work, school, or whatever early morning activity.

Breakfast is frequently out of the question in this scenario. Because there isn’t enough time.

But when you wake up early, you can have time to prepare a healthy breakfast AND actually get to enjoy eating it.

Furthermore, you can consider your breakfast preparation to be a form of service to your family.

Shifting your perspective about breakfast from a chore to a positive act will make getting up early to prepare breakfast a pleasant experience.

Establish a healthy sleep-wake cycle

Don’t make it hard on yourself. Yes, you read that right. Waking up early doesn’t have to be tough and challenging.

How? You may ask? Well, the hack is to schedule a good sleep-wake cycle that you can adhere to.

One thing that’s keeping you from waking up early is because you stay up late at night. And if you’re body does not get the rest that it needs, it will definitely have a hard time getting up early.

So you need to schedule a sleep-wake cycle where your body gets 7-8 hours of rest and you meet your goal of waking up early. To do that, you also have to turn in to bed early.

For instance, if you want to wake up at 5 AM, you have to go to sleep at 9 or 10 PM.

Once you found a schedule that works for you, the next thing you need to do is to go to sleep and wake up at about the same time, each day, every day. Even on weekends. This is to ensure that the healthy circadian rhythm you developed is not disrupted.

Have a positive mantra

Another simple way to develop the habit of waking up early is to have a positive mantra that you tell yourself each morning. Positive words that will energize you to get up and get moving in the wee hours of the morning.

Here are some examples you can try:

Today is a good day. Wake up then and seize the day!

Good morning you wonderful person. It’s a great day, get up and make your dreams come true.

Thank You (God or Universe) for this magnificent day. I’m going to get up this beautiful morning and make the most of this blessed day.

Aahhhh…another day closer to my dreams. Good morning!

Aaand another glorious day begins. I open myself up to the blessings that come my way. Thank you!

Having a positive mantra, one that can make you get out of bed with a smile will most certainly make a great start for the day. And these good feelings will carry over to the rest of your day. Now, ain’t that nice?

Starting your day with a full and grateful heart and a ready-to-conquer attitude will allow you to get on with your tasks with focus and enthusiasm.

Benefits of waking up early

The reason rich and successful people swear by waking up early is because it makes them more productive. They get things, especially the important ones, done early in the morning, when most people are still rushing out of bed, trying to catch up with the day.

Certainly, waking up to an unhurried start to the day allows successful people to gather their thoughts, plan, and organize their day ahead.

Also, they can tackle the day ahead with greater focus and concentration due to the extra time they had for themselves in the morning.
