Feeling down and discouraged? That’s been me for quite some time now. I have started blogging in August last year. And I am now in my 6th month on my new journey. Although I have consistently posted new content, my traffic is not picking up the way I want it to be. Thus, the feeling of discouragement.
Add to that the fact that I have not posted a single piece of content in January because of dental problems followed by a bout with colds.
I am now only starting to feel better, physically and mentally. So I am sharing here the 12 best quotes that helped me get through my mental slump.
12 Inspirational quotes to cheer you up
When feeling down, you really have to take some action on your part to make yourself feel better. It does not matter what it is, just that you should DO SOMETHING. ANYTHING.
Quotes for doing
Nothing can be done by just wanting and going to do something. It’s in taking action. It’s the “do” part that gets something done. You have to take Henry Ford’s word on it.
You can’t build a reputation on what you are going to do.– Henry Ford
Author Stephen King also chimes in that we should not do something based on inspiration. When we set our goals and commit to something, inspiration should not become part of the equation. Rather, it’s the “getting up and doing it” that will make you achieve.
Amateurs sit and wait for inspiration, the rest of us just get up and go to work.– Stephen King
Here’s a reminder from Benjamin Franklin of how time is wasted while you stay put waiting for inspiration to come.
You may delay, but time will not.– Benjamin Franklin
Here’s a quote to remind you that it’s okay to make mistakes. Making mistakes is one way for us to learn and better ourselves.
While one person hesitates because he feels inferior, the other is busy making mistakes and becoming superior.– Henry C. Link
Finally, here’s a quote to jolt you out of your stupor and get you moving. When you’re feeling down, there’s really nothing you can do but get up and do something.
The secret of getting things done is to act!– Dante Alighieri
Quotes to lift your spirit up
Keep in mind that we may not always make the right decisions in life. But as the wise people say, as long as you’re breathing, you can always make something out of your life. So cheer up.
We need to accept that we won’t always make the right decisions, that we’ll screw up royally sometimes–understanding that failure is not the opposite of success; it’s part of success.– Arianna Huffington
Remember that even successful people don’t know everything. Yet they don’t let the unknown stop them from going after what they want. They make something happen, so can you. Take heart from this quote from Sara Blakely:
Don’t be intimidated by what you don’t know. That can be your greatest strength and ensure that you do things differently from everyone else.– Sara Blakely
And when you are having doubts about your abilities, know that you are a unique individual. You have certain qualities that you can build on to achieve success.
In the words of Christian D. Larson, a prolific author of metaphysical and New Thought books, he says:
Believe in yourself and all that you are. Know that there is something inside you that is greater than any obstacle.– Christian D. Larson
Also, keep in mind that no matter what you’re going through, whether you’re just feeling- meh! or really down and out, your story is still unfolding. You’ll eventually get to the point where you’re doing fantastic and living your best life.
Life has its pains and evils—its bitter disappointments; but like a good novel and in healthful length of days, there is infinite joy in seeing the world, the most interesting of continued stories, unfold…– W.E.B. Du Bois

Inspirational quotes and messages can be found in a variety of places. They are not limited to famous people’s words. Even ordinary people have something to say from time to time. Something from which others can learn or gain some truth.
So in this section, I will share inspirational quotes from the normal day-to-day people we interact with.
For budding writers and bloggers like myself. For those starting their coaching business, public speaking, artists, or creatives. Here is a quote that will cheer you up and keep you going.

And here is another quote to keep discouragement at bay:

Finally, from yours truly, here’s a line that cheers me up when I at least did something productive for the day. Even if it is not about writing.
If I learned something new, then my day is not wasted.– Amri Deen
The idea here is to start a small action that will eventually build momentum for you to get on with your life. To keep doing what you have set up to do or find what you are passionate about.
Everybody goes through a period of doom and gloom. We’ll get over it, eventually. But it is up to us to get over it quickly and not let the gloom consume us.
So with these quotes, I was able to get past my feelings of discouragement. Hope they can help you too.
